Professor Mehmet Asutay, Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Islam and Society (AJIS), has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Prize for Impactful Achievement in Islamic Economics (www.IsDBInstitute.org) in recognition of his significant and influential contributions to the field of Islamic economics and finance.

The prize laureate is a Professor of Middle Eastern and Islamic Political Economy and Finance at Durham University, United Kingdom. An internationally recognized scholar his pioneering research, academic discourse and publications have made important contributions to the field of economics and finance, shaping disciplinary dialogue and setting the framework for novel directions.  

The IsDB Prize recognizes and honors Professor Asutay’s groundbreaking work on the Islamic moral economy advancing critical understandings of the subject, whilst ethically positioning Islamic finance as an important means to support sustainable development and enhance the overall welfare of human beings.
